Gabrovo Becomes the First Municipality to Support the Bike2Work Initiative

The Municipality of Gabrovo has become the first municipality in Bulgaria to officially join and support the Bike2Work initiative, marking an important milestone in the country’s movement toward more sustainable and active urban mobility.

Known for its environmental leadership and forward-thinking policies, Gabrovo continues to set an example in sustainability and innovation. By partnering with Bike2Work, the city reaffirms its mission to promote cycling as a healthy, accessible, and eco-friendly mode of transportation for residents, employees, and local organizations.

Through this collaboration, Gabrovo aims to encourage citizens to leave their cars behind and choose cycling for their daily commutes — reducing carbon emissions, improving air quality, and fostering a stronger sense of community. The initiative will also engage workplaces across the region through cycling challenges and real-time data on health and environmental benefits.

“Gabrovo is a true example of how local authorities can turn sustainability into everyday action,”

said Emo Abadjiev, Founder of WeRide.Today and organizer of Bike2Work.

“By promoting cycling as part of city life, Gabrovo is helping create healthier people, cleaner air, and more connected communities — and we’re proud to take this ride together.”

The partnership between Bike2Work and Gabrovo Municipality builds on the city’s ongoing efforts to promote energy efficiency, smart mobility, and sustainable growth. Gabrovo has earned recognition both nationally and internationally for its achievements in these areas and remains one of Bulgaria’s leading examples of green transformation.
